As has become a Midwest tradition, this annual event again included a silent auction for the benefit of Future for Kids – www.futureforkids.org a charitable mentoring and youth sports camp program. This year’s auction items included an array of products especially for Arabian horse owners with generous contributions from Schneider Saddlery, Barbwire Western Couture and the Arabian Saddle Company. All Midwest guests enjoyed the opportunity to bid on the wine tasting, fine dining and shopping certificates, golf outings and hotel stays at the Ritz and the Phoenician as well as lovely jewelry. An adorable little West Highland terrier puppy donated by Cammie’s Westies charmed the crowd throughout the evening.
Opening entertainment for the Training Centre’s spectacular presentation of Arabian horses drew members of the audience to the dance floor with training for the two-legged crowd. No championship ribbons were presented to those who learned the “Cotton-eye Joe” but a fine time was had by all while the real stars of the evening were behind the scenes preparing to steal the show.
As a prelude to the main presentation, Victor Ricigliano momentarily abandoned his camera and musical direction, to introduce his wife, Lori Ricigliano, riding a beautiful Friesian stallion named Webe owned by Jim and Sally Bedeker .
As David later said, the Boggs family, members of Team Midwest, have always appreciated good horses of any breed, and this presentation proved the truth of that statement once again. Everyone was delighted by dressage maneuvers of this big magnificent black horse and his accomplished rider.
David stepped to the podium to greet the huge crowd accompanied by wife Terry Anne and together they introduced the newest member of the Boggs family, son Jake, born on June 19, 2006. Although this year’s attendance shattered all previous records for the party, Jake was blissfully unaware of his sea of admirers and happily entertained all around him with big smiles.
David called Midwest members Rinaldo Longuini, Gil Valdez, Travis Rice and Jordan Simons on stage to open the presentation of horses, an assembly of the breed’s very best, again in the time-honored tradition that party-goers have come to expect from Midwest. The audience was definitely not to be disappointed with this evening’s spectacular star-studded cast. While blazing fires and torches flamed in the desert night, mares with precious tottering days-old foals at their sides completely captivated the crowd – and challenged handlers and owners Michele and husband David to hang on tight.
A host of rose blanket bedecked champions raced on stage under the direction of Rinaldo, Travis, Jordan and numerous other talented handlers who participate in the massive undertaking of presenting so many horses in one showing.
Following the presentation of the Invitational horses, special guests *Ecaho and *Laheeb thrilled the crowd with their fiery interaction. With stops for carrot munching and considerable fan admiration, *Magnum Chall showed off, followed by Nations, *Fausto and young *Maddox. DA Valentino and Maddox capturing the audience in an amazing display of stallion power and breeding diversity. High-stepping Mister Chips thundered across the stage as the entire presentation drew jaw-dropping approval from the enthusiastic crowd. In grand finale fashion, the greatest stallion of them all, Magnum Psyche, raced across the stage with Gil on the lead to bid the audience goodnight.
And so, another year, another Midwest Scottsdale Event comes to a close, another breeding season begins with hope and promise excitedly on the horizon.
Another reason for resounding confidence in the power of Arabian horses from Around the World to unite people in peace and friendship through mutual admiration of the most beautiful horses in the world.
Love to all,
Team Midwest!
Midwest Training Centre
Presents
Arabian Horses & Family Fun Day
On Saturday, February 10, 2007 Midwest Training Centre opened the gates to the future hosting a second event designed to educate, entertain and promote the Arabian breed with children. Arabian Horses and The Family build upon the tremendous success of a Welcome Home party for Magnum Psyche last year upon his return to Arizona from Argentina. What began as simply a casual ice cream social get-together for families and friends has quickly blossomed into another grand Midwest tradition.
Janey and Don Morse of Oak Ridge Arabians again sponsored this year’s event. Their magnificent and promising young imported National champion Magnum Psyche son, *Fausto, put on an all-star performance to close the afternoon presentation. But in between there was a wealth of fun, food and family entertainment. Guests were greeted in the farm’s front pasture by a pair of mares and foals who put on quite a show of their own for much of the afternoon. Then it was on to more babies, this time a baby farm animal petting zoo. It was difficult at times to tell who enjoyed this delightful assembly more, the parents or their children.
After a little face painting and receiving a custom sculptured balloon art creation, kids – and their parents – quickly found the hot dogs and ice cream. The lush grounds of the farm provided the perfect backdrop for the festive carnival atmosphere. What could be better on a lovely February afternoon in Southwest desert?
As always at Midwest, the horses take center stage, but this afternoon that stage was dominated by the young Boggs set with Courtney, Lyndsey and Emma, their cousins, Austin and Olivia, along with their friends Brandon Valdez, Mike Love and the very talented students who train with Natalie Jones and Carolyn McDonald. This group of youngsters put on quite a show, displaying their horsemanship skills in English, Western and Show Hack with Natalie galloping across stage in the traditional Native Costume to the delight of the crowd.
Master of ceremonies, David Boggs, and his talented Team Midwest of Travis Rice, Gil Valdez, Jordan Simons & Rinaldo Longiuni guided six young performers through a very informative and educational halter clinic as both children and horses prepared to compete in the upcoming Scottsdale Arabian Show. David traced the beginnings of the Arabian horse of Bedouins and the spread of the breed around the world. He talked of the popularity of the breed today as both an extremely versatile show and pleasure horse.
The best Arabian ambassadors are often the smallest, and a nine-day old foal was drenched with affection and afforded the crowd a wealth of photo opportunities. Her mother, the beautiful mare Heaven Sent stood by munching carrots and keeping an ever watchful eye on the precious filly. Magnum Psyche was not physically present as his flight was arrived late afternoon in Los Angeles on another return trip from Argentina. However, his dominance as the premier stallion in the breed was showcased by a fiery and flashy performance of another of his multi-champion sons, *Magnum Chall and *Fausto.
As David introduced a number of horses consigned to the Midwest Invitational IV Sale, the international connection and camaraderie of Arabian breeders was unmistakable. Just as the Arabian horse drew together a group of families and admirers on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Scottsdale, the love of this breed continues to bring together people from all walks of life and all corners of the world to share their experiences, and their hopes and dreams for the future.
On Thursday, February 8, 2007 Midwest Training Centre was honored to once again to host an annual gathering of the clients of Cities West Publishing, Inc., publishers of PHOENIX magazine and Phoenix Home & Garden magazine. Now in print over 40 years, PHOENIX magazine is recognized as one of the top city magazines in the nation, while Phoenix Home & Garden has championed all aspects of the Southwestern lifestyle for more than a quarter of a century.
Clients of the magazines rave about what has become an annual event at Midwest, rating this party as their top choice of all the fun and interesting events produced annually by the magazines. This year the crowd enjoyed a scrumptious buffet from Scottsdale caterer, Razz, which was staged around the farm’s main fire pit and flanked on all sides by the palm trees outlined in twinkling lights.
The ideal warm desert night was the perfect setting for the magnificent Arabians of Midwest to completely charm party guests. Travis Rice served as master of ceremonies as the other members of team Midwest, Gil Valdez, Rinaldo Longuini and Jordan Simons, presented a select group of show and Midwest Invitational IV Sale horses to the audience.
On hand for the evening were first-time guests at last year’s party, Matt and Kira Hasher only this year Matt shared their experiences from their introduction to Arabians a year ago. And a bit later he presented the results, as he brought their two prizes, Mandalai Blu & Electra SRA.
As is to be expected, the newest addition to the group drew the most oohs and aughs with a beautiful eight-day old filly stealing the show from her opening walk-on. Mom stood close by somewhat impatiently munching carrots while nearly everyone in attendance was photographed with her precious baby.
Janey and Don Morse were on hand to enjoy the presentation of some of their horses and to explain to the crowd how their introduction to Midwest has evolved into a passion for Arabians and wealth of new friends and adventures.
The big guys usually end the shows at Midwest and Nations took the honors for the evening with a fiery performance of stallion brilliance. Followed, of course, by eating carrots from the hands of children – the trademark close to another delightful night of Arabians and great fun during February at Midwest Training Centre Scottsdale.

The Midwest Invitational Sale III,
The presentation of "the Horses of the Desert"
The Return of *Magnum
Just when you think it can't get any better . . . It does!
Once again, in its time-honored tradition, Midwest set new standards for every important facet of the Arabian horse show, sale and breeding experience.
This year, thanks to the most extraordinary general outside-the-horse-world media coverage ever, long time enthusiasts were joined by a host of the newly interested. And that's the best thing that can possibly happen for the future of this breed.
Every day following the Scottsdale Show, the Midwest facility came alive with parties and sale presentations, where neophyte aficionados joined the seasoned horse show clan. And on every one of those days a great time was had by one and all.
And once again, Team Midwest made record sales, representing over 5 million dollars worth of the world's finest Arabian horses.
Magnum's Return From Argentina is Celebrated
With a Terrific Kids' Party and Ice Cream Social
Billed the "Welcome Home Magnum" party, this fun-filled event was born of the giant hearts of David and Terry Anne's oldest daughters. In 2005, Courtney and Lyndsey invited a number of their school friends to join them for a sleep over to await the birth of a foal. Seeing how much joy the youngsters got from that experience was one of those "ahaa, light bulb flashing" moments for David. And it wasn't long before he started planning another up close and personal experience for as many kids as possible.
In an Arizona Republic Newspaper article David explained his thinking this way: "The future of the Arabian horse lives with the children. Arabians are family horses." With this and future events planned for the education and enjoyment of every child he can touch, David plans to introduce a long-overdue young public to the unparalleled joy of becoming friends with the Arabian horse.
Held the Saturday before the Scottsdale Show began, the party was a dazzling success. Magnum was indeed welcomed in the best of style by a huge crowd of nearly 400 local area kids and their parents. Families were filled with the kids' favorite fare of hot dogs and ice cream. They were educated by Arabian horse demonstrations given by "kid" wranglers including David and Terry Anne's daughters and their cousins. And, the visitors were delighted by a baby animal petting zoo.
Building a marvelous foundation for the future, the Family Midwest kicked off the Scottsdale festivities in the best imaginable style!
The Midwest Thursday Night Gala
"The Horses of the Desert"
On Thursday, February 23, 2006 , an estimated 2000 revelers from all over the world partook of the legendary Midwest hospitality and showmanship.
The invitation said when the sun went down the party would begin and indeed it did! The Midwest Invitational III, Horses of the Desert , held at Midwest 's sprawling Scottsdale facility, set records for both attendance and entertainment.
As promised, when the sun began to lower on the western horizon, strains of Moroccan music filled the air and a belly dancer began to make her mesmerizing way around the campfire. For nearly an hour the crowd was enchanted by a troop of three performers who skillfully executed such variations of this ancient dance form as the exotic dance of the veils, the sword and fire and dances.
S tallion bars perhaps better termed, stallion information stations, were arranged all around the lush grounds of the Midwest Training Centre. Dedicated to the magnificent stallions of Midwest - *Magnum Chall, DA Valentino, Maximuss, *Fausto, Anza Padron and of course the incomparable Magnum Psyche, these individual bases were colorful and informative additions to the festivities. Clusters of cocktail tables, draped in brilliantly colored linens and scattered over the expansive lawn area, added to the elebratory atmosphere, as guests dined on a buffet sprea of Middle Eastern cuisine.
New to the annual February party this year was the inclusion of a silent auction benefiting Future for Kids , a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk children through sports education camps and one-on-one mentoring programs. The high selling item, a fine quality western saddle trimmed in silver, was most generously donated by Schneiders' Saddlery. Rod Smith, founder and executive director of Future for Kids , presented David and Terry Anne with a lovely crystal sculpture to commemorate the evening and thank them for their support of the organization.
David opened the presentation of horses with a warm, personal welcome. The song, " That's What Friends Are For " accompanied him to the podium. What he had to say went something like this:
Good Evening everybody. Thank you for coming,
My name is David Boggs and it is my pleasure to welcome you to Midwest Training Centre and the Midwest Invitational Sale III
I'm not to shy about telling you that in our homeland of Elk River Minnesota , it's currently a balmy 20 or so degrees tonight. So we're really grateful to be here with you beneath a warm and starry sky.
On behalf of my lovely wife Terry Anne, our daughters, Courtney, Lyndsey and Emma Boggs, we welcome you and thank you for coming to share this warm and magical Scottsdale evening....
This place called Scottsdale in the valley of the sun ~ and this farm ~ are very special to us. For sometime now, we've felt it is a perfect place to gather to enjoy the love and spirit of the Arabian horse.
As I look around, I see many old friends I haven't seen in a while ~ as well as many new faces. Perhaps this is your very first visit to an Arabian horse farm.
Well ~ If so, tonight is for you and we hope this will be the first of many visits to Midwest and to all the beautiful Arabian horse farms in Scottsdale ."
With these welcoming words, the tone was set for another brilliant Midwest presentation. At the Midwest Invitational III, a record number of National and International Champions were shown together. Rose garlands were everywhere! One after another the great mares and stallions of the modern Arabian breed were proudly presented to a completely enthralled audience.
With David carrying the color commentary, the presentation went something like this:
"Please allow me to give a short history of this great breed to those of you that are new tonight. I want to relay to you just how special these horses are to us.
People from all over the world are falling in love with the beauty of Arabian horses, sometimes without even understanding why.
An interest might have begun with the nostalgic Black Stallion books that led to Arabian
horses appearing in movie theaters all across the land. But whatever the cause, the result is clear, the Arabian horse is becoming the most popular horse in all the world!
Because of their intelligence and sensitivity ~ and because they have been domesticated for at least 3000 years, Arabian horses are gentle, tractable creatures that, if permitted, develop a close personal relationship with their humans.
Tonight we have a very special collection of horses to enjoy with you. Together, they represent many of the greatest Arabian horse bloodlines and breeding programs from around the world. Tonight, along side our great American-bred horses you'll see Arabian horses from the countries of Argentina , Brazil , Uruguay and Chile, from Poland , Germany , Australia , the Middle East , and the United Arab Emirates .
